Clicking the Census tab brings you to the census list. 

Patients are displayed in a sortable list. Clicking any of the column headings will re-sort the list in ascending or descending order (alphabetically or numerically).

The following table provides a summary of some of the key features of the Census tab.

Feature Summary

Smart Filter

Text typed in the Smart Filter Search box narrows the list of results to display only those related to text you entered.

Source and Facility

To limit the census list to a select source The Source dropdown list includes multiple hospitals that can have several associated facilities. After you select a Source, use the Facilities dropdown list to drill down on a specific facility you want to use to filter your census list. 

The All option is available in the Facilities dropdown to search all facilities in the selected source hospital.

Days Back

The Days Back filter refers to the amount of information presented in the view based on the number of days back from the date of patient discharge. For an admitted in-patient, the Days Back filter refers to the number of days back from the current date (today).

In the Census the Days Back filter goes back to a maximum of 14 days.

Print

All Census lists can be printed using the print icon Image of printing icon

New Results Flag

All new results use a colour coded visual indicator to alert you to any new results available for the patient, and if the result requires immediate attention.

Hovering your mouse over the indicator will display a tooltip showing which modules have new results. 

Example: Groucho Marx has three new lab results to view.

Patients List

A list of your patients based on the Smart Filter, Source, Facility, and Days Back preference settings. 

Worklist patients are also listed here.

Add/Remove from Worklist

The Add Patient icon Add patient button appears in the last column of the patient search result or census list. Click the icon add the patient to your Worklist.

If the patient is already in your Worklist, the Remove Patient icon remove patient button is displayed in the last column. Click the icon to remove the patient from your Worklist.

 

Accessing a Patient’s Record

To access a patient’s record, click the row of the patient whose record you want to view.

The Patient Dashboard module will display and encounter information is populated in the header, the same as if you had accessed the record using the search results feature.

 

Census Print Function

Use the Print function to print your Census List.

Census Tab Preferences

The Census tab has it’s own set of preferences that can be accessed and configured by clicking the Preferences button  in the module header or through your Global Preferences.

After updating your preference settings, click the Save & Apply button Image of save and apply button to save your changes.

Preference Description

Default Census View

Configures which census tab you would like to see when accessing the Census.

Source

Days Back

Sort By

Allows you to set which column you want your results to be sorted by.

Sort Direction

After setting the Sort By column, you can select to sort the data in Ascending or Descending order. 

a tip icon If the Sort By column uses a date (numeric) field, selecting Descending order will display the most recent rows of data at the top of the list view. 

a tip icon If the contents of the Sort By column uses characters A through Z, setting the Sort Direction to Ascending will order the list view alphabetically from A to Z. Setting the Sort Direction to Descending will order the list view from Z to A.

PDF Export Orientation

Allows you to configure the PDF page orientation when exporting the list of Risks t. Options include Portrait or Landscape orientation.

 

How to generate an Inpatient Census form the Census tab

Sorting your Census by Column

You can sort the Census list by the Visit type column to group together all inpatient visits. To sort your list by Visit Type:

1. Click the Visit Type column header.

2. Scroll through your list any look for any patients that have I or IN listed in the Visit Type column. This would indicate they had an inpatient visit.

Smart Census filter your Census

You can also use the Smart Census filter to only list inpatient encounters.

To filter using the Smart Census:

1. Enter in or i in the Smart Census filter.

2. Scroll through your list any look for any patients that have I or IN listed in the Visit Type column. This would indicate they had an inpatient visit.

NOTE: If any other entry in the Census grid starts with in or i, you will see those results when you enter in or i in the Smart Census filter, even if they’re not actually inpatient encounters. Always make sure you verify your filtered results by looking at the contents of the Visit Type column. 

How to generate a Discharged Patient Census list

Discharge Census lists are helpful for family health teams where there is a need to review when patients were discharged from source hospital systems. The lists displays discharged patients associated with the assigned physician to a maximum of 14 days back.

To create your Discharge Census list:

1. Click the Discharge Date column header.

2. Your patient list is now sorted by discharge date with the most recently discharged patient showing at the top of the list.

How to sort the Census List by Emergency Department (ED) Visits

An ED Census list can be created to display a list of patients in the Emergency Department associated with the selected source and facility. List displays for a maximum of 14 days back.

a note icon Not all facilities listed may have an Emergency Department.

To create the ED Census list:

1. Enter e or ed in the Smart Census filter.

2. Scroll through your list any look for any patients that have E or ED listed in the Visit Type column. This would indicate they have an Emergency Department encounter.
