The Census tab displays a list of patients that have acute care activity, based on the selected source hospital system and the number of days back from the current date. Clicking any of the column headings will re-sort the list in ascending or descending order (alphabetically or numerically).

Census Tab Preferences

The Census tab has it’s own set of preferences that can be accessed and configured by clicking the Preferences button  in the module header. You can also change your Default Census View by selecting the options from the dropdown list.

After updating your preference settings, click the Save & Apply button to save your changes.

How to generate an Inpatient Census form the Census tab

Sorting your Census by Column

You can sort the Census list by the Visit type column to group together all inpatient visits.

To sort your list by Visit Type:

1. Click the Visit Type column header.

2. Scroll through your list any look for any patients that have I or IN listed in the Visit Type column. This would indicate they had an inpatient visit and my still be in hospital if there is no discharge date showing in the column.

Smart Census filter your Census

You can also use the Smart Census filter to only list inpatient encounters.

To filter using the Smart Census:

1. Enter in or i in the Smart Census filter.

2. Scroll through your list any look for any patients that have I or IN listed in the Visit Type column. This would indicate they had an inpatient visit.

If any other entry in the Census grid starts with in or i, you will see those results also, even if they’re actually inpatient encounters. Always make sure you verify your filtered results by looking at the contents of the Visit Type column.

How to generate a Discharged Patient Census list

Discharge Census lists are helpful for family health teams where there is a need to review when patients were discharged from source hospital systems. The lists displays discharged patients associated with the assigned physician to a maximum of 14 days back.

To create your Discharge Census list:

1. Click the Discharge Date column header.

2. Your patient list is now sorted by discharge date with the most recently discharged patient showing at the top of the list.

How to sort the Census List by Emergency Department (ED) Visits

An ED Census list can be created to display a list of patients in the Emergency Department associated with the selected source and facility. List displays for a maximum of 14 days back.

Click on the Visit Type column to sort the Census list by the type of encounter. Any patients that have E or ED listed in the Visit Type column indicates they have an Emergency Department encounter. You can also check the Location column for more information as shown below.

If any other entry in the Census grid starts with ed or e, you will see those results when you enter ed or e in the Smart Census filter, even if they’re not actually ED encounters. Always make sure you verify your filtered results by looking at the contents of the Visit Type column.
